Mauritius is surrounded by coral reefs almost
around the island. The reefs are close enough to the beach, making
the lagoon safe for swimming. Our free snorkelling trip takes you
to the Merville patches which is only 4 minutes by boat from our
beach. Snorkelling is only at a maximum of 3 metres deep, generally
at 1.5 metres.
Water temperatures are pleasant at 26-30 degrees celsius
in summer (October to April) and 19-22 degrees celsius in winter (May to September).
Free snorkelling
sessions are offered twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Three sessions are programmed as from 10am and a maximum of 9 persons
is allowed on board the glass bottom boat (per trip). Equipment
- mask, tube and fins - are available free on board the glass bottom
boat.
Sign up at reception is compulsory. Due to
its popularity, snorkelling sessions are done on a first come first
serve basis.
Large fan corals, flat corals and soft corals
add to the exquisite beauty of marine life. On a sunny day, when
visibility in water is good, the underwater world illuminates into
a kaleidoscope of bright colours, with friendly Sergant Major fish
and clown fishes weaving in and out of colourful anemone plants.
