On board the catamaran overlooking Le Morne mountain

Catamaran anchored while
you snorkel before lunch

Bottlenose dolphins riding
alongside the catamaran

An all-time favourite for kids, teenagers and adults ! Allow a full day for this catamaran cruise which combines dolphin watching and introduce you the exquisite beauty of the South West coast, Crystal Rock and Benitiers Island. A sumptuous BBQ lunch with grilled lobster and sea urchin await you on board, just after your snorkeling in the crystal clear waters (masks & fins supplied).

Their innate connection to humans has made dolphins one of the most fascinating sea creatures. Most often seen in the West of Mauritius and in groups of four or five, the dolphins are more than happy to perform their ballet in the water, as they ride alongside the boat! We have seen more than 30 once on a catamaran trip this year in May 2004. Tip: it seems there are more dolphins in this area during autumn and winter - May to August.

Tariff : Rs. 1,400 per person

Riambel main road

The coastal roads snaking South is worth the drive, for its breathtaking scenery, especially at Macondé, Riambel and Souillac. The only break in the otherwise perfect barrier reefs circling Mauritius occurs in the South. Thus explaining the angry waves which come crashing on the cliffs.

Swimming is strictly prohibited. Yet, it is still a favourite place for many locals to have a picnic and to relax with friends, family and relatives. Kiosks, public toilets and safety ramps have been placed to the convenience of the public.

Further down the road is 'La Roche qui pleure', ('The Weeping Rock') and 'Le Souffleur', where crashing waves 'whistle' as they rush into the gaps of the cliffs.

On your way back to Ocean Villas, you may stop at the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens, which is known to naturalists throughout the world for their large collection of indigenous and exotic plants, including the giant Victoria Amazonica Waterlilies and many species of palm trees. Of particular interest the talipot palm which is said to flower once every 60 years and thereafter dies - our natural drama queen ! Visit L'Aventure du Sucre (previously sugar cane factory turned into museum) at Beau Plan.
